چکیده
Abstract Infectious diseases bear a great risk for populations of naïve host species. In the present article we inform about first microscopic and molecular detection bird pathogen Trichomonas gallinae in White-winged Snowfinch ( Montifringilla nivalis subsp. ). The emergence trichomonosis this highly specialised alpine species may pose serious threat to its already declining population. Interspecies transmission T. most likely occurred at feeder Swiss mountain village. Monitoring disease immediate measures prevent spread are urgently needed.

Biosynthesis of the Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) Lectin in Ripening Ovaries.
The biosynthesis and processing of the Galanthus nivalis agglutinin were studied in vivo in ripening snowdrop ovaries. Using labeling and pulse chase labeling experiments it could be demonstrated that the snowdrop lectin is synthesized as a precursor of relative molecular weight (M(r)) 15,000 which is posttranslationally converted into the authentic lectin polypeptide of M(r) 13,000 with a half...
متن کاملThe energy cost of voluntary running in the weasel Mustela nivalis.
The small size and elongate shape of weasels (Mustela nivalis) probably evolved to facilitate movement within the burrow systems of prey species, but result in high energy costs of thermoregulation. In this study we measured metabolic rates of weasels during voluntary locomotion to determine whether energy costs of transport are also high in these unusually shaped mammals. In addition, we measu...
متن کاملThe white-crowned pigeon. A fruit-eating pigeon as a host for Trichomonas gallinae.
Physiologic values obtained from 10 stone sheep (Ovis dalli stonei) were reported, providing a start in establishing base line values for the species. The influence of excitability, diet, and stress of the sheep at sampling upon certain values was recognized.
متن کاملGenetics of Cryptic Speciation within an Arctic Mustard, Draba nivalis
Crossing experiments indicate that hybrid sterility barriers frequently have developed within diploid, circumpolar plant species of the genus Draba. To gain insight into the rapid evolution of postzygotic reproductive isolation in this system, we augmented the linkage map of one of these species, D. nivalis, and searched for quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with reproductive isolation....
